Skateboarding, as we know it today, originated in California during the 1960s. The first boards were simple designs made by attaching roller skate wheels to planks and crates. By the 1980s, skateboarding had reached all corners of the USA and was becoming popular with people all over the world. Today, skateboarding is a global phenomenon with an estimated annual revenue of more than $5 billion, and is set to be represented at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Skate, Surf & Art brings together the work of 44 artists from around the world, displaying the evolution of the skateboard with a whole range of designs colours and shapes. AUTHOR: Carolina Amell is a graphic designer who specialises in nonfiction book illustrations. She has illustrated more than twenty books.
